Symbology Patterning Control Dialog

Complicated designs with patterned areas often cause MicroStation to be cumbersome. Adding patterned elements causes file sizes to enlarge and associative patterning makes screen refresh times slow. To avoid this, patterning display can be turned off, but adding pattern to a lot of areas is laborious.

Used to allow a more automated method of patterning and to allow selected areas to be hatched, crosshatched, or patterned with a cell. The cell library must be attached to the design file, or the cell must be an associative cell already in the design file. The patterning then plots and displays on screen with Bentley Advanced Map Finishing, even though the shape elements in the design file are not patterned. Display can be suppressed by turning off MicroStation pattern display.

Turning on Patterning on the Symbology sub-tab and clicking Settings opens the Symbology Patterning Control dialog, with options similar to MicroStation Patterning.

Opens when clicking on the Settings button while the Patterning control is turned on in the Table Printing Control dialog Symbology tab.

Example: All closed elements on level 1 that are colour 78 are patterned with the PAT1 cell at scale 1.0. The outline of these elements is not displayed.

SettingDescription
Type

Specifies the type, either Patterning (Cell), Hatching, Cross-Hatching, or Linear.

CellName

Provides the cell name, if patterning with a cell, that appears in the attached cell library or exists in the current design file as an associative cell.

Scale

Sets the factor by which the active pattern cell or active pattern is scaled.

Row Spacing

Sets the interval between rows for the tiling of the pattern.

Row Angle

Sets the angle at which instances of the active pattern cell or pattern are placed.

Col Spacing

Sets the interval between columns for the tiling of the pattern.

Hide Outline

Allows patterning or hatching to be displayed and printed, but the boundary hidden.

Scale by reference

Scales the pattern according to a reference.

OK

Accepts the changes and closes the dialog.
